I’m not big on chasing trends. If something only works for a moment, it usually doesn’t belong in your home long term. That said, every year I start to notice patterns, not from trend reports, but from real conversations with clients and how people are actually living in their homes.
The design direction for 2026 feels less about what looks good on paper and more about what feels good to live with. Calm. Comfort. Thoughtful choices that hold up over time.
Here’s what I’m seeing, and what I’ll be designing around as we head into 2026.
Instead of bold moments competing for attention, design is becoming a lot more intentional. Fewer statement pieces, but better ones.
Beautiful stone, rich woods, subtle veining, thoughtful lighting.. It’s more in the details, where you can see every inch of a space has actually been thought about, rather than a lot of loud pieces shoved in a room.

Clients are asking for spaces that feel connected, but still offer moments of privacy. Maybe a reading corner or a calm bedroom. You’d be mad to want to spend every moment of every day in the same room as your family, but you still want enough open layout to feel connected no matter what everyone’s doing. It’s about being thoughtful with it.
And it goes beyond just where the sofa sits. Where do you dump your bags when you get home? Which room do you naturally walk into first? Even things like where the kids’ snack drawer should live need to be considered.
Lighting is no longer an afterthought. It’s one of the first things I think about in a space.
Soft, layered lighting completely changes how a home feels, especially in the evenings. In 2026, lighting shouldn’t just be thought of as functional, it’s emotional. It sets the tone for the entire home.

We choose materials based on longevity, not just because something’s “trendy” this year. Why would you invest in a piece of furniture that only lasts a year or two? And it’s not just about furniture either. Countertops are chosen with how they’ll patina over time in mind. Hardware gets used every single day, so quality really matters. And don’t get me started on flooring. Design should feel timeless, not just in how it looks years from now, but in how it actually feels to live in.
his might be the biggest shift of all. Homes are being designed around real life and real stages, not just how a space looks on day one. Rooms that your kids can grow into, not out of. Finishes that still make sense when life looks different a few years from now. Spaces that work just as well for family movie nights as they do for quiet mornings. It’s about functionality without sacrificing beauty, and creating timeless spaces that evolve with you instead of needing to be redone every time life changes.
Design is becoming more personal. And much more intentional.

The future of design is NOT about dramatic change. It’s about refinement.
Homes that feel calm instead of chaotic. Beautiful without being precious. Thoughtfully designed to support everyday life.
