If there’s one thing I’ve learned in design, it’s that people love to know what designers choose for themselves. And honestly… I get it. There’s something reassuring about seeing what we gravitate toward when we’re not designing for a client brief but designing for our own families, our own routines, our own everyday moments. And if you’ve been wondering what countertops I’m using throughout my home, consider this my official “I don’t gatekeep” moment.
These materials aren’t just beautiful. They’re functional, durable and chosen intentionally for the way we actually live. And because I know choosing a stone can be overwhelming, I want to share exactly what I picked, where it’s going and why I love it.
This stone… I could talk about it forever.
Matterhorn Dolomite has all the beauty and softness of marble but the unexpected strength and durability of quartzite. It’s truly the best of both worlds. The veining is subtle, elegant and timeless, the kind of stone that makes your kitchen feel elevated without screaming for attention.
It’s the piece in my home I’m most excited about.

Laundry rooms deserve gorgeous materials too.
Bianco White Rhino has a creamy warmth that softens the entire space. It’s the kind of stone that makes a typically utilitarian room feel intentionally designed and genuinely enjoyable to be in. It’s calming, clean and quietly luxurious.

Yes… I used it again.
Once I saw how perfect it was for our kitchen, I knew I wanted the same feeling in our bathroom. The tone, the movement, the durability, it brings this serene, spa-like energy that I really wanted for the primary suite. You can never go wrong repeating a stone you truly love.

This one feels playful but polished.
Silver Shadow Grey Marble has this beautiful soft grey tone that adds visual interest without feeling too bold for a kids’ space. It’s grounding, gentle and neutral enough to evolve as the kids grow. Functional, but still special.

A theme is forming… and I’m not sorry.
The pantry flows directly from the kitchen, so keeping the same material makes the entire space feel cohesive and intentional. Plus, the durability factor here matters. This stone can handle daily use without losing its beauty.

I fell in love with this stone during a previous project. We used Taj Mahal in a client’s kitchen and it completely transformed the space, warm, earthy, subtle veining that feels elegant without trying. I knew right then that I wanted to use it in my own home someday.
For the outdoor kitchen, it was the perfect choice. Quartzite is incredibly durable, so it handles outdoor conditions beautifully, and Taj Mahal has this natural, sunlit glow that feels made for an exterior space. Functional, timeless and one of my all-time favourites.

I love sharing these choices because I want you to see that thoughtful design is never about picking the “trendiest” material. But understanding how a space will be lived in and choosing pieces that support that lifestyle beautifully.
If you’re planning a renovation or you’re feeling overwhelmed by stone options, I’m always happy to guide you. With the right materials, your home doesn’t just look better, it works better for you.
And I’ll never gatekeep the good stuff.
Every home is different, and the right materials depend on how you live in your space. If you’re unsure where to start, I’m here to help you make confident, thoughtful design choices.
